The objective of the research project was to achieve professional matureness of Dr.art. Ieva Pīgozne and enhance her specialisation development by completing a study that characterises the Latgalian folk dress, outlines the chronological development of it in the 19th century and detects regional and foreign influences in it. The scientific objective was to enhance the base of knowledge on Latgalian clothing in the 19th century and to revise the existing knowledge. The objective of the project proposal is achieved. Ieva Pīgozne studied the 19th century Latgalian peasants’ garments, footwear and accessories that are stored in museums in Latvia. She examined the written and iconographic sources that characterise Latgalian dress in the 19th century. Ieva Pīgozne outlined the chronological development of clothing and compared the Latgalian dress and research results of clothing from other regions in Latvia, the Baltic States, neighbouring Russia and Belarus, as well as Poland and Germany (the countries of origin of the ruling class in Latgale).
The project consisted of six activities/work packages:

3. Chronological development of Latgalian dress,
4. Regional influences in the Latgalian folk dress,
5. Transfer of knowledge,
6. Professional development of the post-doctorate.
