- The Repository of Ethnographic Materials provides services to the research staff of the Institute of Latvian History, University of Latvia, as well as individuals and organizations (referred to as readers) whose research activities comply with the legislation of the Republic of Latvia and the legally protected interests of the state and citizens.
- For permission to work in the Repository of Ethnographic Material, an application (official letter) should be addressed to the Director of the Institute of Latvian History, University of Latvia, giving the name of the reader, their place of employment, position, scientific degree, the research theme and its chronological limits, and the aim of the research.
- Readers are issued the material requested from the Repository of Ethnographic Material corresponding to the research themes, taking into account the specific character of the material (respecting the rights of the authors of scientific writings and rights to personal privacy); the possibility of copying material is provided.
- Only registered, described and organized documents in good physical condition are issued to readers.
- The reader is responsible for correctly reflecting in their publications and research papers the information contained in the material they have utilised from the Repository of Ethnographic Material, indicating the location where the material is held and giving a full citation (with the name of the repository, the collection number and the registration number of the item).
- Readers are prohibited from: removing material belonging to the collections from the Repository of Ethnographic Material or research reference material (staff of the Institute of Latvian History, University of Latvia, are exempt) or passing them to other parties; making remarks or inscriptions in material from the Repository of Ethnographic Material, or otherwise damaging them.
- The Repository of Ethnographic Material is entitled to:
- institute forms of paid services and fees for such services, based on the price list of the Institute of Latvian History, University of Latvia, stipulating the procedure for payment;
- institute a procedure for providing services to readers and for registering and checking the files issued to readers;
- temporarily restrict utilisation of the material of the Repository of Ethnographic Material, if the requested material has been issued to staff of the Institute of Latvian History, University of Latvia, for implementing tasks relating to their immediate work;
- temporarily restrict use of material from the Repository of Ethnographic Material for publication, if this particular material is the subject of planned scientific publications by the Institute of Latvian History, University of Latvia.
