The repository staff are currently working to create a unified database of the holdings, which will alleviate its utilisation for research.
Eight lists are currently available, to be supplemented in the course of time:
- List of Collections of Excavated Material (VI);
- List of Archaeological Reports (VIAA);
- List of Primary Documentation (Pd);
- List of Collections of Drawn Plans;
- List of Drawn Plans (Pl);
- List of Collections of Photographic Negatives;
- List of Photographic Negatives (Foto);
- List of Private Archives (Pa).
Opening the lists belonging to the database requires MS Access (generally included in the Microsoft 365 software package together with other applications, such as Office and Outlook).

In order to alleviate searches and use of the lists, the List of Collections of Excavated Material is linked to the List of Archaeological Reports, while the List of Collections of Drawn Plans is linked to the List of Drawn Plans, and the List of Collections of Photographic Negatives is linked to the List of Photographic Negatives.
The database of the Repository of Archaeological Material
The List of Collections of Excavated Material covers collections about which the Repository of Archaeological Material holds records. The list of collections gives the collection number, excavation director, excavated site, date of excavation, location of the site (district, parish), the date of the site and remarks.
The List of Archaeological Reports covers archaeological excavation reports deposited with the repository. The list indicates the registration number of the report, the author, the name of the site, the type of site, the year, the location of the site (district and parish), the kind of investigation undertaken (survey or excavation), the number of text pages, the number of pages of illustrations, the date of the site and remarks as necessary.
The List of Collections of Drawn Plans covers collections of drawn plans in the repository. The general list of collections of plans gives the number of the collection of plans, the number of files of plans, the total number of plans, the excavation director, the excavated site, the date of excavation, the date of registration and remarks.
The List of Drawn Plans currently covers the plans from a number of excavations, giving the registration number of the plan, the excavation director, the name of the investigated site, the date when the plan was drawn, the subject of the plan, the scale and remarks.
The List of Primary Documentation covers the documentation compiled by archaeologists from the Institute of Latvian History on archaeologically excavated and surveyed sites: diaries, records of excavation areas, levelling journals, lists of artefacts, pottery, photographic negatives, samples etc. The list gives the number assigned to each file, the author, site, year, description of the primary documentation, number of pages and remarks.
The List of Collections of Photographic Negatives gives the registration number, author, site name, site type, year, location of the monument (district and parish), kind of investigation undertaken (survey or excavation), number of files, number of photographic images, number of pages and remarks as necessary.
The List of Photographic Negatives currently includes photographic negatives from a large number of investigated sites in Latvia. The list consists of descriptions of images. These include: the number in sequence, collection number, file number, kind of image (negative or slide), the name of the site, year, description of the file, author, number of the image on the film, date of registration and remarks.
The List of Private Archives consists of records of research by archaeologists from the Institute of Latvian History collected in museums in Latvia and abroad, manuscripts, copies of articles published abroad, etc. The first material included in this list is the material of the private archive of Elvīra Šnore.
The List of Scientific Correspondence consists of letters, postcards and telegrams addressed to archaeologist Elvīra Šnore. The list gives the number of the collection, folder and file, the contents of each file, the number of pages, the date of registration and remarks: where the letter was sent from, the language, whether it is handwritten or typewritten and other information.

The List of the Collection of Research Literature consists of the books held at the Repository of Archaeological Material. The list gives the author and title of the book, the country, city, publisher, year of publication and number of pages, indicating the editor in the remarks.
